Katie Coffman – Right now, as of May 21, 2008, I am a 20 year old female who works as a server for a catering company and goes to school in order to become a pastry chef. I love food, though I have to say I love preparing it as much as eating it. There's something just so fun and fullfilling about creating dishes and meals, especially if I can serve it to other people. That might sound kinda strange, but eh, it's what I do! I can go on about food and desserts and the sort for quite a long time, so I'll stop now.
I also like books! I like owning them, so I try not to borrow them from people, because then I have this slight tendancy to not give them back... Music is also a great interest of mine, I own a tenor saxophone and a flute and have played a couple other things too. Piano though, is not my friend, as much as I wanted it to be. Bastard...
Where do you want to be May 15, 2013? May 15, 2003: Let's see: my sophomore year was finishing up, and I was celebrating my one year anniversary with my boyfriend at the time. In five years from then I was hoping to be married, almost done with my Music Education degree, and working at an elementary school somewhere teaching kids how to play/read music. Umm...yeah, my goals and ideas were entirely different back then. So in five years from now I want to be working somewhere either in LA, New York, or Las Vegas as a pastry chef in some really up-scale hotel/restaurant. That way I have the resources, knowledge, and skill to open my own dessert restaurant in one of those cities shortly thereafter. That's what I'm really, really looking foreword to. On the Verge will help by getting my name out there to all the big pastry chefs already in the industry, and make it easier for me to get an apprenticeship with one of them.

Career
•Career Choice: Pastry Chef!
•Why? Who doesn't love food?!
•What do you want to accomplish by this? Feeding people. And not just ordinary, bland food, but beautiful, delicious works of culinary art. This level of artistry will take some time to get to, however.
•What has been the biggest obstacle so far? Realizing my passion.
•What has been the biggest obstacle in the past 6 months? Quitting traditional schooling and bearing the (unfair) stigma of trade schools.
•What is the easiest? Cooking/baking in general. It comes pretty natural to me and I have no problem spending 8+ hours in a kitchen.
•What was the last thing you did for your career? Got this catering job (though it's not close enough to what I want).
•What are your current job(s)? See above answer
•How do you pay your bills? With my job/ hope.
•What are your plans for the next 3 months? Get a kitchen job, start to learn Spanish, Hone my piping and decorating skills.
