Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper cuts the proverbial 'red ribbon' at the new Jiberish Clothing LoHi Concept store on Dec. 17th, 2009 in Denver, Colo.

Additionally, prominent staff from the Office of Economic Development, including Director of the Office of Economic Development, André Pettigrew, came to support the opening. This office has been active in fostering the growth of creative businesses by distributing the 'Create Denver Revolving Loan Fund' which gives loans to aspiring creative businesses and entrepreneurs in a time when traditional lending is hard to come by.

Transcript: John Hickenlooper (Mayor of Denver) - Of course my only reservation about being here is the fact that people often refer to the spiel from an elected official as "jiberish", so. The Office of Economic Development in conjunction with the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs loaned almost $200K to assist 17 local businesses and Jiberish clearly is one of them. As you can see this is a business kind of based around the snowboarding free-skiing hip-hop aesthetic. They were founded in 2005, first sales in 2006. They now have 43 retailers in 16 countries. As we begin to work our way out of this economy, it's not going to happen from one big corporation moving Denver or another big corporation, it's going to be lots of small businesses who through their efforts and through their success, create a sense of optimism. Richard made a lot of connections about the creative class, they are creating the new economy and they're going to live anywhere, and they want to be in places that have cool shops like this (applause).

André Pettigrew (Director of Economic Development) - I was sharing with Dave that I've got a son who is a professional hip hop artist. You know, we're kind of overdressed here and I'm kind of looking forward to seeing what it is that you're going to get me into that would make my son not be embarrassed. Come on up here Dave (applause).

Dave Boger (Co-Founder of Jiberish Clothing) - So as mentioned previously, Jiberish is a recipient of the Create Denver Revolving Loan Fund. It seeks out local and creative businesses and provides them with lending in a time when traditional lending institutions are not doing so. Jiberish is one of the many companies that is starting to shape the new face of what Denver Colorado is. We truly have a unique culture here and we are excited to share that with the rest of the world (applause).

John Hickenlooper (Mayor of Denver) - The moment you walk into Jiberish you see that it's not designed like a normal store, right? There's a lot of attention to creating an atmosphere and a mood. From the actual volume of the space to the way its got detailing and paint. It's cool, you just want to be in here.

Really creative businesses are not completely recession proof but there are enough people out there that really care and in times when the economy is bad, they won't buy as much stuff but the one thing they'll buy is something they feel really reflects their personality, makes them excited about going out, you know see their friends, go to work, they'll go to custom designed stuff that's hip.

What advice do you have for young, creative entrepreneurs? You know, it's just like anything else, if you're talented that's only part of it. You've got to work hard, my only advice that I give to everybody, whether it's in school or young entrepreneurs just starting, is work hard and be nice. If you just keep focused on building relationships and working hard, you'll succeed.

How many Denver business openings do you go to? You know, I wish I got to a lot more business openings but we usually only get to one every couple of months, just because the schedule is so bad. We look for one that's unique, that's different, that puts the city in a positive light and where our presence can be of some benefit.

Blake Kimmel (ABSTRACTmall Founder) - Okay! Thank you sir.

Blake Kimmel, founder of ABSTRACTmall and partner of Jiberish Clothing out of Boulder Colorado, student at the University of Colorado was contacted by Fuel TV to do a short interview for their Dew Underground series. In this two minute video Blake discusses his background in art and interest in clothing.

Transcript: What's up guys, I'm Blake Kimmel originally from Huntington Beach California and now living in Boulder, going to school there. I'm a graphic artist, that's why I'm talking to you, I'm really interested in digital design - Illustrator, Photoshop. My free hand skills are actually... terrible. This one behind me was actually done in a print making class at the University of Colorado. I actually got a B- on that project, and I just want to give a shout out to Mess, my teacher, here I am on TV talking about it.

I came out to Colorado because I've always loved to ski, getting out here has really opened a lot of opportunities for me. Jiberish, a clothing company starting up out of Denver run by three super cool guys helped me get started, helped me meet a lot of people, actually paid me for my first artwork.

Seeing my artwork for the first time on a finished product was really rewarding. A lot of times you sit at your computer alone, and grind for hours and hours trying to make something that looks dope, and when it's finally done that's very relieving but even better when it's in the physical world and people can enjoy it - that's why I've been so into clothing design. It's a practical application for a piece of artwork, instead of just hanging on the wall it can be warn by people, enjoyed, seen by everybody - passers-by notice it.

The video areas has also been my passion for a while. It's all about getting out there with your friends and killin' it so I'm trying to capture that on video. The art scene in Colorado is pretty sweet, small, tight knit but definitely on the up and up and there are a lot of talented people out here. I think the outdoorsy active nature of this place keeps everybody super motivated to do as best they can at whatever they're pursuing.

From our childhood friend Brandon Bosch comes a band called L'elan Vital with a song entitled Pop That Collar Chad. Check out their latest music video from the L'elan Vital album titled THE WINK & THE GUN and visit myspace.com/elanvitalmusic to find more on the band and buy their record. Definitely listen to "Bullets Are Such Small Things" and check out their spot in the Sims Snowboarding re-launch DVD.

This particular video was filmed at Church in the City on Colfax Ave in Denver, CO. And yes, those are REAL sugary alcoholic beverages you see. In the video, L'elan Vital members are enjoying a sunny day in the park sipping "Bakardi Teezers" and chuckling when the sinister team of "Enron Execs" tries to ruin their afternoon by soaking them in Bakardi and challenging them to a barbarous game of streetball -- first to 10 wins. Sensing mortal danger yet refusing to feed the egos of such miscreants, L'elan Vital dons the battle gear of their forefathers: sweatbands and Iron Maiden slap-bracelets, and takes the court as the heroic "Single Mothers."

The match is tight from the inception, as each shot seems to fall identically through the net. Yet, when the ferocious game of the Enron Execs comes but one point from victory, the 9-8 lead seems insurmountable for the Single Mothers. In desperation, Patriot Andy calls a timeout. Honoring the soccer tradition of their youth, the teams grab Ecto Coolers and orange slices and take a well-earned rest.

Nearing the closing seconds of the break, an angelic coach appears to the Single Mothers and describes an ingenious play with which our heroes can tie the game at 9. With enthusiasm "in the glory of the lord," the teams take the court for their final showdown. Implementing their pre-ordained play precisely, the Single Mothers baffle the Enron Execs with blazing speed and razor-sharp turns, allowing Bearded Brandon the solitary moment needed for the perfect long range jumper. Deities willing, he nails it.

Tied at 9, the teams battle like the lions and water buffalo at Kruger until Bearded Brandon and Half-Panted Josh epically collide, sending the ball careening into the sky like a celestial body spinning in silent solitude. At the apex of their reaches the pro and an tagonists seize the ball simultaneously and wrestle violently for possession like potential penguin mothers over a misplaced chic. As these two emotional leviathans stare swords at each other they are struck by the equality of their efforts and the futility of fighting the flaring passion between them any longer. They embrace; exactly like Romeo and Juliet's first kiss, except they are men.

While initially appalled, teammates from each side are eventually enlightened by the ethereal majesty of two hairy lovers finding solace in each other's saliva. In homage to world peace, the opposing teams graciously set aside their differences, grab their gargantuan supply of Bakardi Teezers and shower the heated lovers in a sugary bath of alcoholic bliss.

Sweaty, sticky, and spent the unified teams lay as their makers made them on the Church's court reminiscing on their former sins and prejudices. What blind Neanderthals they had been!

Yet after all the blood and excrement has dried and crusted, the fable was but a TV advertisement from a corporation exploiting the empathetic ethos of 2008 TV viewers. Bakardi Teezers "Makes switching teams a breeze."

Waiting Game was written and performed by Gina Moffit (23) out of LA. Gina says "I was staying with a friend mine who likes my music and happens to play piano, so magically things just started to happen." Gina's work tends to just happen in some unusual places including the bathroom floor but that doesn't bother us! Just wash your hands when your done...

Gina Moffit is certainly not Just another bachelor's degree with her beautiful voice, sexy pout, and some of the most unique lyrics we've ever heard, Gina is a rising star and we're stoked to feature some of her best work here on aM. You can find more of Gina's work on YouTube and we highly recommend her new song Almost.

Lyrics:

I drove with you 3000 miles...
To help you start a life without me...
But i think i left mine behind now...
Cuz it's on hold...

So if you want me then I will be waiting...
for the hourglass to be half full again...
You know what they say even optimists carry raincoats...

See you later's not good bye...
Contestants in the waiting game line...
As yesteryear skips a beat now...
I'm rushing my life

SO if you want me then I will be waiting...
for the hourglass to be half full again...
You know what they say even optimists carry raincoats...

I know it's funny
For me to say i'm waiting
We were supposed to meet up
I'm the one not quite there yet
But i just got get one more thing
Another...another bachelor's degree...

You can find out more about This Holiday Life at: Myspace.com/ThisHolidayLife The music video was made by Mathew Stubstad (writer, cinematographer, producer, director) and was shot in August 2007 and finished in September 2007.

Video Information provided in an interview with Matthew Stubstad: "I have known and been a fan of This Holiday Life for a while. The guys in the band are great people and I have wanted to work with them for a long time. I started making a video for them last year, the video had slow-motion light bulbs exploding in reverse and some other neat things, but I had too much school and not enough time to make the project I wanted.

But Scott (lead singer) and I stayed in contact. They started to record their newest album The Beginning of the End of the World. Scott sent me a sample of the song Motivation and I could not wait to get started.

They finished the album and we started making the music video for Motivation. The shooting schedule for this video was intense. We shot 14 different scenes and 10 different locations. And we shot this all in one full day and one long night. It was fun but a lot to keep track of and a lot of energy. Because I was not only directing the video I was also shooting and producing it (essentially a one man crew, besides my home boy Austen Hesseling who was Assistant Producer and played the bands Sleazy Agent). We shot most of the film in and around Encinitas, my home town. I find it helpful to film there because I know it like the back of my hand, location wise that is.

The guys in the band were a dream to work with. They were hyped up and eager the whole time, no egos, just great people. When the band got their equipment set up for their performance scenes they became electric, performing great every take. They are a great band to see live if you ever get the chance.

During the scenes where they had to actually act I had a great time directing them. It was good practice as a director to work with non-actors. The work was also rewarding when I saw a good performance out of them.

We finished shooting the film and then the long process of editing began. My good friend and great editor Alik Griffin cut this film for me. We spent many late nights re-cutting scenes making this fast paced film work. He put a lot of time into this project and it really shows.

All in all I loved making this film. It was nothing but rewarding. In fact the band and I had such a good time making this film and were so happy with the end product that I will be making the next music video or two for their album The Beginning of the End of the World."

This video is a Matthew Stubstad Films Production and you can learn more about his work at: myspace.com/MatthewStubstadFilms

Video Information provided in an interview with Matthew Stubstad: "One night I was at my friend Garret's house. He had people over and I showed them all a film I had just made called The Contract. One of the people in the crowd was James Coleman. As we watched the film together he kept asking me questions about how I made it, etc. After we had completely finished the film he explained to me that he is in a band called Love Campaign and that they want to make a music video for their new song called Dead at 21.

On that same night James took me to his car and showed me the song, it was great! Some time passed due to school and life, but then we got on track with making the video happen. This was going to be my first big music video so I had to make it great, from style to concept. So I met up with James (lead singer) and Justin Froese (lead guitarist) to get their input as to what they wanted from the video. A lot of talking and Rico's fish tacos later and we had our concept.

The plot in the music video comes from the story of a girl who inspired the song, but the real girl is still alive :)

I knew I wanted to film the band performing on top of a mountain with a great view behind them, so we went searching and eventually found the perfect spot. The only trouble was that the location was right next to some houses and we planned on filming the band perform their song at 6am. So the drummer Vito covered his drums with towels and they played away. Luckily no one woke up.

We shot this film in 3 days. The first day started at 9 pm and ended at 7 am. In that day we shot all of the performance sections. We got some great shots on top of the mountain at magic hour while the sun was rising. The next day we went to a local restaurant called Captain Kenos in Encinitas to shoot the story section of the film, they were very nice and let us use the whole place.

We ended up in down-town San Diego that night at hotel lobbies trying to shoot the ballroom dance scene. We were kicked out of a few places but we kept on and got the shots we needed. I did what we had to in order to complete this film. This film was mostly shot guerrilla style with no budget and a one man crew of me (Matthew Stubstad).

The lead actress in the film was great. Her named is Elana Hendler. She is very talented and gave a great performance. I was also very happy with Jame's performance, for not being an actor I got some good material from him.

It was a lot of fun working with these guys. They were humble, stoked and easy to work with."

Jason Bruges teamed up with Greenpeace UK in London to create an art display that also promotes energy efficiency this September.

While CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light bulb) energy efficient technology has been around for several years now, many have complained that it is not aesthetic appealing and cannot be dimmed. This display helps raise awareness of new CFL's that can be dimmed and still maintain their energy saving qualities.

The art piece was made completely of renewable or recycled materials and featured special touch points that users could interact with. As members of the audience put their hand on special sensors the light would respond in an organic way. In this sense, the display acted like a living creature and created an analogy for the energy of our natural world.
